Quick Tips on How to Make RAW Coconut Yogurt or RAWGURT

According to Wikipedia, “Analysis of the L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus genome indicates that the bacterium may have originated on the surface of a plant.  Milk may have become spontaneously and unintentionally infected through contact with plants, or bacteria may have been transferred via the udder of domestic milk-producing animals.”  Hmmmm, so Yogurt was originally made with Wild Bacteria and not Milk as many think, and believe, this is the only way to have Yogurt.  

I use Bio-K+ a 50 Billion Liquid 100% Probiotic with Fermented Rice in this recipe.  I also take one container daily and give a small splash to my Chihuahua Jasmine in her food as well. What I like about this product is that they keep their Bacteria Alive even during their manufacturing process!  And Live, Living Food is what RAW is all about.

As a Raw Plant-Based Food Eater, there are so many Names for Products, that people automatically think of Diary, or Meat when talking about them.  So I’m going to invent new words to use that will mean ‘Raw and something like that’, and I welcomed all and any of your suggestions.  Let’s get a new Raw Dictionary for Food started!  So from now on my Raw Yogurt will be called ‘RAWGURT’.

So now back to this recipe.  I searched in many grocery stores for Rawgurt and just couldn’t find it.  I knew that Probiotic Cultures is what you needed when making Yogurt the old-fashion way.  So, instead of getting “Yogurt Cultures”, I thought why not use Liquid Probiotics that already have the Cultures in them.   And instead of Milk, use ‘something like milk’ but was plant-based.  Hurrah to the Coconut.  Coconut Meat turns into Coconut Milk when blended.  And so RAW, Organic, Plant-Based Yogart was born = RAWGURT.

This recipe is so simple, your kids will be begging you to make it, or will be begging to make it on their own.

All of my Ingredients are always ORGANIC and RAW where indicated.

  1. 1. PREP: A. Defrost the Coconut Meat until soft. Store the remainder in a glass jar and add filtered water. Cover and Store for 2-4 Days - use for Smoothies, Dehydrated Chips & Facon. B. Soak Dates for 5-10 minutes in filtered water and use the water for this recipe C. Squeeze Lemon for Juice - use only half and make sure there are no seeds 🙂

  2. 2. Put all ingredients into the Vitamix and blend until smooth.

  3. 3. Pour into a Glass Bowl and add one container Bio-K. Stir until well blended. Place in a Dark, Warm spot Uncovered. I put mine on top of my dishwasher at night.

  4. 4. In the morning, add the 2nd container of Bio-K over mixture and stir until well blended.
